How to properly optimize your website
There are many ways to get to the top of the major search engines, the likes of Google, Yahoo and MSN, programs that require a lot of time and effort. However, unless your website is not optimized properly, then doing all the other campaigns to getting to the top of Google, for example, is like “putting the cart before the horse” and will potentially hinder all your chances at a top 10 placement, somewhere you need to be in order to make an impact online.
Optimizing your website is vital to the entire search engine success model and it is the first step in this process. There are many components that are involved in optimizing your website, they are:
- Have a proper Meta Tag Description – A Meta tag description, along with a Meta tag keyword list is located at the top of a website, inside the “<head>” section. A proper description involves about a 2 sentence summary of the website, essentially, giving a briefing on your website.
- Have a proper Meta Tag Keyword List – A Meta tag keyword list is also located in the “<head>” section of the website. This list should include all the word combinations associated to your website that a user would type in to find you on a search engine result. For example, if you have a website that caters to restaurants and you want your website to be found with the keyword combination of “Toronto Italian restaurants” then that 2 word combination should be included in your keyword list.
- Have a proper title – A Title is found on the top of the HTML of your website and that involves having a 6 – 8 word title that best describes your website
- Alt Tagging all your images – If your website is image heavy, then chances are, your website is not optimized properly and you will not have a the search engine spiders index your pages properly. An Alt Tag is a code that allows your images to be transferred into text. An example of an image that has been Alt tagged is by mousing over an image and having text displayed.
- Having keywords in the body of your text – When writing the blurb for your website, make sure that the information contained on the pages matches the keywords in your Meta tag keyword list and Meta tag description. This will give you twice the leverage with the keywords on your webpage, thus giving you a better chance to be indexed more quickly and effectively.
So in conclusion, these are 5 crucial steps that are required to be implemented into your website that will make your website fully optimized. Then, it is at that point where you should begin to implement a Search Engine campaign to get your website to be recognized in the Search Engine databases; however, without properly optimizing your pages, you are shooting your website in the foot, because the process will not work unless your websites are properly optimized. |
